Santa’s Scout Elves Greet Sailors
Just in time for Veterans Day, gather your little ones together to read about the 2014 voyage of the USS Hampton submarine and its Navy crewmen, featuring pictures of Santa and his Scout Elves at the North Pole! When the Navy submarine had to surface to avoid an iceberg, none of the crew members could believe that they had arrived at the North Pole! We hope you enjoy reading this playful tale with your loved ones.
In the hazy half-light of the Arctic tundra, the captain of the USS Hampton could just barely make out the shape of the frozen land stretching out before him and his crew.
When his submarine’s radar had detected a large iceberg blocking its path, he had to surface the vessel, but he wasn’t sure exactly what he was looking at as he glanced out of the submarine’s periscope.
Then, he spotted a solitary sign upon the shore, announcing the crew’s location: “Welcome to the North Pole.”
As the crew members opened the hatches on their submarine and peeked their heads out into the icy air, they could see their breath in small clouds before them.
Several polar bears lifted their heads to see what the commotion was about, but the sailors could see nobody else in sight. However, unbeknownst to them, thousands of Santa’s Scout Elves stood hidden behind the North Pole’s icy crags waiting to greet them.
After taking a short stroll along the ice, the sub’s crew settled down to get a good night’s sleep before figuring out how to navigate home.
But in the morning, the crew was surprised to see that Santa’s Scout Elves had perched all around the submarine!
Outside, two elves greeted one of the ship’s crew members after he climbed out of the submarine.
Inside the submarine, many of the elves found the perfect spot to relax!
…or take a nap!
Some of the crewmen were excited to take pictures with the magical creatures…
…even though some of the elves went a little too far while examining the wiring!
Several elves even manned a fire hose to help a sailor in case anything went wrong in the sub’s control hub.
Other elves decided to spend time with the sailors. Here, they gave one crew member a break from his reading!
Hunkered down in the break room, this elf shared a cup of hot cocoa with two crew members. Extra marshmallows, please!
Some of the elves learned all about Arctic operations!
And then they helped the crew members plan their route home.
But before it was time to say goodbye, the crew gathered together with Santa to take one last photo!
Happy Veterans Day to all, and safe travels to the crew members of the USS Hampton!
