Everyone knows that a Scout Elf’s best friend is an Elf Pets® Reindeer, just like dogs are man’s best friend! So, in honor of National Dog Day, Santa’s Scout Elves are sharing some tips on how your family can show their appreciation for all the fine furry critters in YOUR life. Now that the dog days of summer are drawing to a close, start celebrating the dog day of summer with your pet in these five fun ways!
There’s nothing like rolling down the windows and feeling the wind in your hair—or fur. Take your dog for a dip in a local swimming hole, or let him roam fancy free amongst his four-legged friends at a dog park. Today, the world—beyond your backyard—is your pet’s oyster.
Fido may not understand exactly what you’re doing, but visitors to your home will see your love for your furry friend shining through when you hang their likeness on your wall! Challenge your children to draw or paint a picture of the family dog, or take a photo featuring your perfect pet to proudly display among your other family portraits.
Go back to the classics! Fetch and tug-of-war have been pet playtime favorites as far back as we can remember, and for good reason! Gather everyone together to participate in game time; that way each family member not only has a chance to bond with the family pet, but can take a turn at having their throwing arm tired out, too!
As we all know, the fastest way to a pet’s heart is often through their stomach! Treat them with treats–either homemade or store bought—and they’ll surely feel the love in food form. Just be sure to check with your vet before serving your pet any particularly creative menu items.
At the end of the day, grab your cuddly companion and show them how much you care the old-fashioned way: with a giant hug and—if you’re feeling generous—by accepting a wet, slobbery kiss to the cheek! There’s nothing quite like the unconditional love that pets so willingly provide.
Don’t forget, these ideas are also great ways for your little ones to spend time with their Elf Pets® Reindeer to help build the Christmas magic that Santa will need to fly his sleigh on Christmas Eve! Learn more about The Elf on the Shelf: A Reindeer Tradition here.
